“We are here today united in support of justice,” Sen. Cruz said. “School choice matters. Every child in the state of Texas matters. I believe school choice is the civil rights issue of the 21st century and every single child in the state of Texas deserves access to an excellent education. It shouldn’t matter what your race is, it shouldn’t matter what your ethnicity is, it shouldn’t matter how much money you have, every child in the state of Texas should be able to access excellent education, because education is the gateway to our hopes, to our dreams, [and] to the future.”

Sen. Cruz also discussed his plans to introduce a federal scholarship tax credit which would unlock billions of dollars for students in Texas and across the country.

“I am intending to introduce federal school choice legislation that would create a federal tax credit, a dollar for dollar credit, of every dollar contributed to a scholarship granting organization, is a credit on your federal taxes,” Sen. Cruz said. “We’ve seen in the states what happens when states enact scholarship tax credit programs. This federal legislation, if and when we pass it, would unlock billions of dollars to help enable Texans and children all across this country to attend the very best school for their future, their hopes, their dreams.”
