Sen. Cruz Visits Johnson Space Center with Vice President Mike Pence
Congratulates NASA's astronaut candidate class of 2017
HOUSTON, Texas - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), today joined Vice President Mike Pence and Representatives Brian Babin (R-Texas) and Lamar Smith (R-Texas) for the astronaut candidate class of 2017 announcement at the Johnson Space Center.

"I was honored to join Vice President Pence, and Reps. Babin and Smith today to congratulate NASA's 2017 class of astronauts," Sen. Cruz said. "Earlier this year, the Administration along with Congress, made a serious and bipartisan commitment to the manned exploration of space, laying the groundwork for the mission to Mars, and enabling commercial space ventures to flourish, all of which will foster extraordinary economic growth and job creation throughout Texas. Advancing America's leadership in space is a critical endeavor, and I am excited and optimistic about the work that remains to be done as we work to open up the last frontier."
As chairman of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Space, Science and Competitiveness, Sen. Cruz has worked with his colleagues to secure the passage of both the bipartisan 2015 Commercial Space Launch Competitiveness Act, which extends the International Space Station until 2024 and received praise from various space industry leaders, and the bipartisan Cruz-Nelson NASA Transition Authorization Act of 2017 which ensures stability for the future development and growth of NASA and the agency's commercial partners located in Texas and across the nation.
