Sen. Cruz: ‘We Can and We Will Rebuild’
Visits volunteers and storm victims, surveys storm damage in Meyerland, Port Arthur and Rockport
ROCKPORT, Texas – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today visited the Houston neighborhood of Meyerland, and then traveled to Port Arthur, and Rockport to visit volunteers, storm victims, and first responders, and survey storm damage.
In Meyerland, Sen. Cruz visited the United Orthodox Synagogues of Houston which sustained overwhelming flood damage. In Port Arthur, he surveyed storm damage at Staff Sergeant Lucian Adams Elementary School and Thomas Jefferson Middle School with Superintendent Mark Porterie and Mayor Derrick Freeman, and greeted storm victims, students and teachers. Later in Rockport, Sen. Cruz visited the Aransas County Emergency Management Center with Mayor Charles J. Wax, to thank first responders and emergency management personnel, before assisting volunteers with relief efforts.

“Harvey left devastating damage. But we’re coming back. All across the Gulf Coast, communities are hard at work – they’ve rolled up their sleeves and are coming together to rebuild. It is inspiring to see Texans help one another and stand united. It’s the Texas spirit that got us through the storm, and it’s that same spirit that will help us rebuild even stronger.”
