2018 is off to a strong start with five Cruz bills already introduced to serve Texans and promote Texas values

“In 2017, Congress rallied together to answer the mandate of the American people,” Sen. Cruz said. “In 2018, we must continue to deliver on our promises. Every day, I wake up committed to serving 28 million Texans – and the five bills I’ve introduced this month are just the beginning.”

The bills Sen. Cruz has introduced in 2018 include:

Making Middle Class Tax Cuts Permanent: After Congress passed historic tax cuts in December, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said in a nationally televised interview that the middle class tax cuts in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act were a ‘very good thing,’ and urged his colleagues to make the tax breaks for working men and women permanent. Sen. Cruz agreed, and introduced a bill at the beginning of January to do just that.

Veterans, Employees, and Taxpayers (VET) Protection Act: Following a troubling report from the Government Accountability Office (GOA) concerning the abuse of official time practices and union activities by employees at the VA, Sen. Cruz and Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) introduced a bill to ensure that union activities at the VA do not undermine veteran care. Meeting the needs of veterans must be the top priority of the VA.

Congressional Harassment Reform Act: In the wake of appalling sexual harassment and assault allegations – from Hollywood to the halls of Congress - Sen. Cruz, teamed up with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) to introduce legislation that will empower victims of harassment to report those crimes, and hold perpetrators accountable.

Visa Transparency Anti-Trafficking Act: Sen. Cruz introduced legislation with Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) to empower law enforcement to better identify potential victims and rescue victims from their predatory employers, hold offenders accountable, and shine a light on human trafficking abuses that occur within the U.S. nonimmigrant visa system.

Resolution to Stand with the People of Iran: Sen. Cruz also introduced a bipartisan resolution with Sen. Pat Leahy (D-Vermont) condemning Iran for violence against demonstrators, and formally supporting the Iranians who are fighting for freedom from an oppressive, radical dictatorship.
