Sen. Cruz: ‘Texans Are Standing United as We Rebuild’

Releases video highlighting progress in Texas Gulf Coast recovery

HOUSTON, Texas – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today released the following video highlighting the progress made in the Texas Gulf Coast’s recovery in the six months following Hurricane Harvey’s landfall. In addition to securing three waves of federal disaster relief, the Cruz-Cornyn-Rubio Hurricane Tax Relief Bill provided more than $5.5 billion in targeted tax relief to hurricane survivors in 2017. Sen. Cruz remains committed to ensuring Texans still suffering from the storm receive the aid they are entitled to under federal law.

“A little more than six months ago Hurricane Harvey made landfall, devastating our Texas Gulf Coast. It is now considered one of the costliest disasters in U.S. history. Harvey was unlike any other storm we have seen before. Roads became rivers, winds obliterated whole communities, and precious lives were lost. Yet, in the face of disaster, in the face of adversity, we saw something incredible. We saw Texans helping Texans; neighbors helping neighbors and witnessed the Texas spirit ignite from Corpus Christi to Beaumont.

“Now, though half a year later, the aftermath of the storm is all but forgotten. Texans are standing united as we rebuild, and I thank every man and woman who has been part of the recovery process.

“In Congress, we have secured three waves of federal funding providing billions of dollars for immediate and long-term disaster relief to the state, including funding for programs that will help Texans rebuild their homes, and funding for critical Army Corps flood management projects that will help the State mitigate against future flooding events. We also passed the Cruz-Cornyn-Rubio Hurricane Tax Relief bill that provided more than $5.5 billion in targeted tax relief to hurricane survivors.

“While much work has been done, we still have a long road before us; and the Texas spirit of determination, generosity, and perseverance will continue to guide us forward. I am committed to continue working tirelessly to ensure that Texans still suffering from Hurricane Harvey receive the aid they are entitled to under federal law.

“I could not be prouder to represent the state of Texas. Together, we will fully recover and we will rebuild Texas stronger and better than before.”
