Sen. Cruz Applauds Trump Administration’s Steps to Formally Withdraw from ‘Job-Killing, Wage-Reducing, Economy-Crippling’ Paris Climate Agreement

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement applauding the Trump administration for taking steps to formally withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement:

"Today President Trump followed through on his promise to relieve our nation of the unfair and economically devastating requirements of the Paris Climate Agreement, which would increase government control over nearly every aspect of our daily lives, fundamentally disadvantage the United States in the global economy, and do nothing to meaningfully decrease global temperatures.

"I applaud the Trump administration for taking steps today to formally withdraw from this job-killing, wage-reducing, economy-crippling Obama-era deal and look forward to working on solutions that further strengthen America's energy independence and grow our economy."

In 2017, Sen. Cruz urged President Trump to act on his campaign promise to "rip up" the Paris Climate Agreement in an op-ed on CNN.com, where he wrote, "we simply cannot afford an agreement that puts thousands of Americans out of work, increases their energy costs and devastates our core industries."
