Sen. Cruz Leads Efforts to Commemorate Texas Legation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) released the following statement after his Republic of Texas Legation Memorial Act passed the U.S. Senate:

“I am pleased to see that Congress has recognized the important role the Texas Legation played in the annexation of Texas and our state’s remarkable history. A commemoration of those who represented Texas at such a unique point in our state’s history will serve as a source of pride for all those who visit our nation’s capital.”

Background:

In September, Sen. Cruz introduced legislation authorizing the Daughters of the Republic of Texas to establish a memorial commemorating the Republic of Texas Legation in Washington D.C. This memorial will honor the individuals who paved the way for the annexation of Texas to become the 28th state of the United States by representing the Republic of Texas as diplomats in Washington D.C. This bill passed the House on September 21, 2020.  It will now head to the President’s desk for his signature.
