June 3, 2017

Greetings,

This week I was able to spend time with notable Texas job creators and saw an important policy advancement in President Trump's withdrawal of the Paris Climate accord, which will prevent significant harm to Texas' energy industry and increased energy costs for Texas families.

On Monday, I published an op-ed urging the United States withdraw from the accord and am grateful for President Trump's Thursday announcement that fulfills his commitment to pull out of the agreement, putting American jobs and energy first. The climate accord would have destroyed $3 trillion in American GDP, killed 6.5 million industrial sector jobs by 2040, and increased energy costs for working and middle-class Texans by 16%.

On Wednesday, I visited with executives from Wyman-Gordon, Lockheed Martin and Pratt & Whitney, to highlight the F-35's important role in protecting our national security interests and its significant impact on the Texas economy. I also had the opportunity to ‘pilot' an F-35 flight simulator, visit with employees, local elected officials, and other Houston business leaders following a tour of the facility. Later, I attended a town hall meeting with employees at Air Liquide, an industrial supplier of gases, technologies and services, where I discussed the need to rollback burdensome federal regulations, and expand opportunities for Texans throughout the state.

I also had the chance to talk to AM 1070 The Answer's Sam Malone, and WBAP's Chris Salcedo about the Paris Climate accord, health care and tax reform, among other issues.

Please read below for an update from this last week.

Keep Texas Strong,

Sen. Cruz Issues Statement Following President Trump's Announcement Regarding the Paris Climate Agreement

Thursday, Sen. Cruz released the following statement regarding President Trump's announcement that he will withdraw from the Paris Agreement:

"I commend President Trump for putting American jobs first. This is great news for the Texas economy and for hardworking Americans all across our country. This is great news for family budgets, which under the Obama Paris plan would have seen significant increases in costs for utilities and nearly everything powered by fossil fuels, which accounts for 82 percent of all the energy generated in the United States. The Paris agreement would have destroyed $3 trillion in American GDP and killed 6.5 million industrial sector jobs by 2040, while even EPA's own models conclude that it will have a negligible impact on global temperatures. And, it gave Russia and China and India a free pass, while hammering American jobs. I look forward continuing to work losely with the administration throughout the withdrawal process, and my number-one priority will continue to be fighting for Texans to advance policies that create jobs, grow the economy, and protect family budgets." "I was honored to visit the hardworking men and women at Air Liquide today," Sen. Cruz said. "As a leader in technological innovations that foster energy production, it's not surprising that you chose to make your home in the U.S here in Texas. Sen. Cruz Urges Ethiopia Prime Minister to End Adoption Ban from U.S.

This week, Sen. Cruz joined 122 members of Congress urging the Prime Minister of Ethiopia to reconsider his April 21st decision to suspend international adoptions. The order has left more than 200 U.S. families separated from the Ethiopian children they have adopted and are trying to bring home.

In a bipartisan and bicameral letter to Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, the 47 Senators and 75 Congressmen said, "While we respect your government's decisions regarding future adoption policy in Ethiopia, we ask for your help in expeditiously resolving cases that were already underway on April 21. We are concerned that a failure to work with us to help these children join their adoptive families could have a negative impact on the relationship between our two governments." Read more...
