December 9, 2017

Greetings,

On Monday morning, I was pleased to address Texas farmers at the Texas Farm Bureau’s 84th annual meeting in Frisco. There, I discussed the Senate’s recent passage of the tax reform bill, which included my amendment to expand the use of 529 Educational Savings Plans. 529 plans are a popular way for parents and grandparents to save after-tax money for their kids’ and grandkids’ college education. My amendment expands these accounts to also be used toward educational expenses at K-12 public, private, and religious schools, as well as toward expenses incurred by homeschooling.

On Wednesday, I joined nine of my fellow senators in a meeting with President Trump at the White House to discuss how to fix the RFS compliance problem – an issue that currently benefits only Wall Street bankers and speculators -- in a way that protects both refinery workers and corn farmers across the country. It was a very positive and productive meeting, and I believe we will ultimately reach a win-win solution.

Also on Wednesday, I applauded the President’s decision to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. As I have long argued, this announcement recognizes the reality that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, and sends a powerful message rejecting all those who wrongly seek to delegitimize Israel through falsifying and erasing the profound ties that exist between the Jewish people and Jerusalem.

My Senate office continues to work to ensure swift and effective service to Texans and Texas communities in need of federal assistance following the storm. If you need additional information or assistance during the recovery and rebuilding process, please do not hesitate to contact my office or utilize the federal and state resources listed here.

Please read below for an update from this last week.

Keep Texas Strong,

TC Sig
