April 28, 2017
Greetings,
Ensuring the safety and security of Texans and all Americans is one of my top priorities, which is why this week I introduced the Ensuring the Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order — or "EL CHAPO" — Act. This legislation reserves any amounts forfeited to the U.S. Government as a result of the criminal prosecution of the infamous drug lord “El Chapo” and other drug lords for border security assets and the completion of the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The U.S. Government is currently seeking the criminal forfeiture of more than $14 billion in drug proceeds and illicit profits from El Chapo, which would go a long way toward building a wall that will keep our country safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons, and individuals across our southern border, and also ease the impact on our federal budget.
I also had the pleasure of joining President Trump and speaking at the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum – where I discussed my efforts to defend the Second Amendment and the Bill of Rights.
Please read below for more details on events and announcements from my office this week.
Keep Texas Strong,
Ted Cruz
