Cruz News: February 18, 2018

February 18, 2018

Greetings,

This week, I delivered remarks on the Senate floor, where I urged my colleagues to stand with the working men and women of America, oppose amnesty, respect the rule of law, and to vote against misguided immigration proposals.

On Friday, I visited the RGV with Vice President Mike Pence, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, and other local and Border Patrol officials to tour the U.S.-Mexico border. There, we met with local Border Patrol agents, and discussed the challenges they face. The overwhelming majority of Texans want to see the border secured, our Border Patrol agents supported, and legal immigration championed, and I will continue to work with my colleagues toward commonsense proposals that address the shortcomings of our current immigration system, while prioritizing border security.

I also penned a letter with Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) to Gary Cohn, Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, and Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, Jr., Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, regarding our concerns over recent reports of the Administration’s plans to nationalize 5G networks. We believe that the private sector is best equipped to build, deploy, and secure 5G networks, and stand ready to work with the Administration to develop free market proposals that enhance competition and protect our economic and national security interests.

My Senate office continues to work to ensure swift and effective service to Texans and Texas communities in need of federal assistance following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. If you need additional information or assistance during the recovery and rebuilding process, please do not hesitate to contact my office or utilize the federal and state resources listed here.

Please read below for an update from this last week.

Keep Texas Strong,
