Cruz News: February 3, 2018
February 3, 2018 Greetings, This week, I was honored to have Pam Willeford of Sutherland Springs, Texas, attend as my guest to the State of the Union. Last November, in the wake of unspeakable evil, we mourned those lost in the mass shooting at First Baptist Church. Her husband, Stephen, demonstrated heroic bravery and courage as he engaged the shooter and risked his own life to save the lives of his neighbors and friends. Stephen and Pam’s commitment to the Sutherland Springs community in the wake of that horrific violence has brought hope and healing, and inspired the entire Lone Star State. On Tuesday, I addressed the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce at their 40th annual ‘SA to DC’ fly-in to discuss four major victories of 2017, from passing historic tax cuts, and repealing Obamacare’s individual mandate, to reducing the burden of federal regulations, and confirming strong, constitutionalist judges to the federal bench. While there was tremendous success in 2017, more work remains to be done, and I am committed to delivering on the promises made to the American people, including by continuing the fight to repeal Obamacare. This week, I released a video highlighting the five pieces of legislation I’ve introduced in the new year. From shining a light on the human trafficking abuses that occur within the U.S. nonimmigrant visa system, and empowering victims of sexual assault, to making the historic tax cuts on middle class families permanent, I am committed to serving 28 million Texans. Also this week – in the wake of Senate Democrats blocking legislation to protect women and unborn children from late term abortions - I penned an op-ed for FoxNews.com highlighting the commonsense provisions of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and my ongoing commitment to supporting pro-life legislation to protect the health and well-being of all women and unborn children. My Senate office continues to work to ensure swift and effective service to Texans and Texas communities in need of federal assistance following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. If you need additional information or assistance during the recovery and rebuilding process, please do not hesitate to contact my office or utilize the federal and state resources listed here. Please read below for an update from this last week. Keep Texas Strong,
