Last year, we rolled back burdensome regulations and passed historic tax cuts for middle class families all across the country. In Texas, we’re seeing opportunities expanding, wages rising, and unemployment at an all-time low. Though we’ve gotten the economy working again for the American people, there are troubling reports that both Democrats and Republicans in Congress are considering including an Internet sales tax in the upcoming omnibus spending bill. It would be absolutely absurd to reverse course now and pass a tax increase on American families in the form of an online sales tax. It would be even worse to slip this tax increase into a big spending bill passed by Congress at the last minute. That is why this week, I was proud to join Sen. Daines in urging Congress to oppose including an internet sales tax in the upcoming omnibus legislation. Instead of hindering the success of the tax cuts with such a measure, we should be working to further reduce taxes, and make the individual tax cuts permanent for working families.

While we achieved huge victories for the American people last year, repealing Obamacare remains an unfinished promise. Unfortunately, Congress is now considering policies that would not only retain Obamacare for the indefinite future, but also expand this health-care disaster beyond even President Obama’s ambitions. This week, I authored an op-ed with my friends Sen. Mike Lee, and Reps. Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan urging our colleagues to stop a potential bailout of Obamacare and to deliver on their promises to the American people to repeal and replace it.

In August of last year, our state was left reeling by the devastating winds and floods of Hurricane Harvey. But in the six months since, we’ve made tremendous progress in our state’s road to recovery, highlighted in a video my office released earlier this week. In addition to securing three waves of federal disaster relief, the Cruz-Cornyn-Rubio Hurricane Tax Relief Bill provided more than $5.5 billion in targeted tax relief to hurricane survivors in 2017. We have a long road before us, and I remain committed to ensuring Texans still suffering from the storm receive the aid they are entitled to under federal law.

My Senate office continues to work to ensure swift and effective service to Texans and Texas communities in need of federal assistance following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.
