Cruz News: May 13, 2018

May 13, 2018

Greetings,

Today, we celebrate the women who make us who we are. My Mom, Eleanor, is a woman of tremendous compassion and strength. She overcame enormous obstacles in her life with courage, and was the first in her family to go to college. Heidi is brilliant and beautiful. She’s the love of my life, and an incredible mother to our daughters Caroline and Catherine. To the moms of the world, happy Mother’s Day. We thank you for your steadfast love and encouragement.

This week, after six months of productive meetings with the President, the administration, and my colleagues in the Senate, I was gratified to see the President step in and make a decision that will save thousands of refinery jobs in Texas and Pennsylvania that are being threatened by a broken regulatory system. The President’s deal is a ‘win-win’ – allowing corn farmers to sell more corn by permitting the sale of E15 year-round—which according to ethanol producers will result in an additional 700 million gallons of ethanol sold, or an additional 280 million bushels of corn—and will help struggling blue collar refinery workers by allowing exported ethanol to provide much-needed RINs relief. This deal is good for farmers, refiners, and America.

For the last year and a half, I’ve encouraged the President to withdraw the United States from the Obama Iranian nuclear deal, and applauded his decision to do so this week. The Iran nuclear deal did enormous damage to America because it allowed billions of dollars to go to directly to the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, in a way that insured Iran would get nuclear weapons. Now begins the difficult work of undoing the damage caused by the deal and rolling back the gains it enabled Iran to make. I look forward to working with my Congressional colleagues, with the Trump administration, and with America's allies in crafting and implementing a comprehensive strategy to confront Iran and ensure it never acquires nuclear weapons.

I had the pleasure of meeting with a number of Texans visiting Washington, D.C., including local elected officials from the City of McKinney, representatives from the Port of Victoria, and leaders from College Station, Waco, Lubbock, and Denton. In these meetings we discussed the victories achieved in the first year and a half of the new Administration and Congress, including historic tax cuts and regulatory reform and the beneficial effect it’s having on Texans across the Lone Star State, and my efforts to expand on these victories achieved moving forward.

My Senate office continues to work to ensure swift and effective service to Texans and Texas communities in need of federal assistance following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. If you need additional information or assistance during the recovery and rebuilding process, please do not hesitate to contact my office or use the federal and state resources listed here.

Please read below for an update from this last week.

Keep Texas Strong,
