Cruz News: September 8, 2018
September 8, 2018 Greetings, This week, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a series of hearings on Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh. The American people want justices on the Supreme Court who are going to be faithful to the Constitution and protect the Bill of Rights. Over the course of four days, while my Democratic colleagues coordinated with protestors and activists to disrupt the hearings, I questioned Judge Kavanaugh on the issues that matter to Texans, including free speech and religious liberty. By any measure, Judge Kavanaugh is one of the most respected federal appellate judges in the country, and I have every confidence he will be confirmed to the Supreme Court in the coming weeks. On Wednesday, Sen. Cornyn and I penned an op-ed for the Dallas Morning News voicing our support for Judge Kavanaugh, and denouncing our colleagues’ efforts to derail his confirmation. On Tuesday, I was gratified to see 12 liquefied natural gas (LNG) export projects receive environmental schedules from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). With six of the projects located in Texas, this announcement is welcome news to our state, the nation, and to our trade partners abroad. The Texas projects alone will bring tens of thousands of jobs to the state for many years to come, and renewed investment in many communities, some of which are still recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. The Lone Star State is at the center of the energy renaissance occurring in the United States. The shale revolution has transformed Texas into the leading natural gas producer and the United States into a net exporter of natural gas. FERC’s announcement is another important step forward, and will boost greater economic growth, create millions of good-paying jobs, lower energy costs, and increase energy security. As Texans continue to rebuild from the unprecedented devastation from Hurricane Harvey and the south Texas flooding, we must also take all steps necessary to prepare our homes and families for any future weather event. For those seeking preparedness information and resources, please refer to the federal and state resources listed here. Please read below for an update from this last week. Keep Texas Strong,
