e-Newsletter: Week of November 22nd

Good Evening,

Upon returning to Washington this week, I was proud to have my bill designating the United States Post Office located on Main Street in Bastrop, Texas as the “Sergeant Major Billy D. Waugh Post Office” pass the Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support. Sergeant Major Billy Waugh dedicated his life to serving his state and country. As an Army paratrooper, Special Forces Soldier, CIA paramilitary officer, Postal Service member, and eight-time Purple Heart recipient, he embodied the highest ideals of American patriotism and sacrifice. Naming the Bastrop Post Office in his honor ensures that his legacy of resilience, courage, and selfless service will continue to inspire generations of Texans and Americans to come.

As we look towards the year ahead, the results of this election have sent a clear message: Americans are rejecting the Left’s failed policies of open borders, skyrocketing gas prices, and radical social agendas. It’s sad to see Democrats refusing to face the facts and course correct. Instead, they’re doubling down. They’re angry at the electorate for not buying into the woke agenda they utterly failed to sell. Under Republican leadership, we will turn the page on this era of extremism to restore common sense, economic stability, and a government that puts the American people first.

“The Left is melting down, and they're still in shock after the results of the election. ... They don't understand what happened, [but] what they're not doing is actually engaging in introspection and saying, wait, how did we embrace such nutty policies? How did we open up the border and let the country be invaded? How did we release murderers and rapists and child molesters? How did we not figure out the difference between boys and girls and men and women? … Instead, they're doubling down and they're mad at the voters.”

This election was a mandate for change. I plan on working with the incoming Trump administration to secure our southern border. Under his leadership, we achieved the lowest rate of illegal immigration in 45 years and we can do it again. This is not only good for our national security, but it is good for the safety and security of our communities across Texas.

“I'm going to make a prediction right now. We are going to see the border secure, and it's not going to take a year. It's not even going to take six months. We're going to see it in January and February of next year. And the reason I say that with absolute confidence is when Trump was president, last time, I worked hand in hand with him to secure the border and reproduce the lowest rate of illegal immigration in 45 years.”

As the incoming Chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, with jurisdiction over national and civil space policy, I am also committed to working with the Trump administration to advance U.S. space leadership. Right here in Texas, we are leading the nation in this effort, which is why I was especially proud to stand alongside President Trump and Elon Musk at the SpaceX Starbase in Brownsville, Texas this week to witness the latest Starship test launch.

“SpaceX has built their launch site and a factory [right here in Texas]. The factory is where they build starships – the largest rockets in the world. Brownsville has historically faced very significant economic challenges. So, to have … billions and billions of dollars invested in Brownsville, South Texas, and the Rio Grande Valley was significant.”

While we work to rebuild a stronger future for our nation, prioritizing the strength of our military remains paramount. I recently celebrated the achievements of my Service Academy Nominations Board as they concluded their annual meeting. Together, we recommended some of Texas’s most exceptional candidates for nomination to our country’s prestigious military service academies. Since 2013, I have relied on this esteemed Board—comprised of service academy alumni, National Guard and Reserves members, active-duty and retired military leaders, former senior civilian Department of Defense officials, and other dedicated military supporters from across Texas—to provide invaluable guidance in shaping the next generation of military leaders. As the academies release their admissions decisions early next year, I anticipate seeing several bright young Texans rise to serve their country with distinction.

“Texas has a proud tradition of producing exceptional military leaders dedicated to protecting our country and upholding its values. I am proud to nominate 40 outstanding young Texans, with the support of Chairman Birdwell and my service academy nomination board, to ensure that Texas continues to send its finest to our nation’s military academies.”

Rest assured, I am unwavering in my commitment to enact real, common-sense change to keep Texas on top. God Bless!

Keep Texas Strong,
