e-Newsletter: Week of September 13th
Good Evening,
After a month traveling across the state meeting with Texans and hearing about the issues confronting the Lone Star State, I made my way back to Washington. This week, I was honored to attend the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony honoring the fallen military heroes who lost their lives in Kabul, Afghanistan on August 26, 2021 as U.S. troops conducted evacuation operations. One of those fallen heroes was Marine Lance Cpl. David Lee Espinoza of Laredo, Texas who was posthumously awarded the Congressional Gold Medal after he was killed by a suicide bomber on that fateful day. At only 20 years old he made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, putting the safety and security of Americans ahead of his own. I was proud to stand alongside my colleagues from Texas—and the nation—in recognizing Laredo’s own Lance Cpl. Espinoza and the twelve other heroes who gave their lives in service to our country. His bravery, and that of the other men and women who died that day, truly deserves this commendation.
Let us not overlook the catastrophic and deadly Afghanistan withdrawal overseen by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Their failed leadership directly resulted in the tragic loss of thirteen American lives. Unfortunately, this isn’t even the most egregious failure of the Biden-Harris administration. Their radical open-border policies are even worse, and have directly contributed to a crisis that has cost American lives, including the tragic death of a twelve-year-old girl from Houston. Jocelyn Nungaray was brutally assaulted and murdered by two illegal aliens from Venezuela after she went out for a soda. This horrific incident was entirely preventable; yet, under the Biden-Harris administration’s non-existent border policies, these criminals were released the very same day they illegally crossed the border.
This week, Jocelyn’s mother, Alexis Nungaray, delivered a profoundly moving testimony to the House Judiciary Committee. I am fighting alongside her every day in Congress to pass the Justice for Jocelyn Act, which aims to ensure that no other parent has to endure the nightmare that Alexis has faced.

This administration’s utter failure to secure our southern border has held a mirror up to the broader consequences our country is facing. It’s no accident that we have had a stagnant economy under the leadership of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris because they’ve willingly waged war on American energy and added new regulations that have killed American jobs. Their sole objective is to push the radical left’s woke agenda regardless of the cost, but their policies have severe consequences. Despite the widespread damage they’ve inflicted, they remain shockingly indifferent to the economic devastation they’ve caused and refuse to take responsibility for their actions.
“Policies have consequences. … We've had four years of them waging a war on energy combined with spending trillions of dollars we don’t have which has produced the inflation we have.”
Amid these challenges, there is a beacon of hope in the resilience and unity of Texans. I enjoyed the opportunity to speak with pastors from across the Lone Star State who came to Washington with a shared commitment to defending the truth and safeguarding our freedoms. Their dedication serves as a powerful reminder of the enduring strength of faith and the collective impact we can have on our communities, even in the face of adversity.
Rest assured, I will always stand up for truth. God Bless!
