e-Newsletter - Week of April 28th

Howdy,

Working for over 30 million Texans in the United States Senate is the honor of my life. This week was no different – we got down to business and advocated for the interests of the Lone Star State.

On Tuesday, I joined Bloomberg to discuss my work with Rep. Jim Jordan, Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, to get answers from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco on what caused the Silicon Valley Bank failure. I’m concerned about the fallout and in particular, the flight of capital we’re seeing away from community and mid-size banks to the giant banks, which I believe is harmful to our economy as a whole.  “One of the great strengths of our economy is the multitude of small community banks we have that finance small businesses, that finance entrepreneurs. And if depositors say, ‘Well, I'm safe if I'm at a giant bank, but at a smaller bank, I'm not,’ that really has a negative impact across the board.”

On Wednesday, I joined News Nation to discuss Mark Swidan, a Houston resident who has been unjustly imprisoned by the Chinese Communist Party for over 10 years and sentenced to death on bogus charges. Watch below↓

I’ve spoken to Mark’s mother many times, I’ve spoken with the Chinese government, and I’ve spoken with the Biden administration about Mark’s case. Read about the measures I have taken to advocate for Mark’s release here, here, here and here.

“This is a wrongful imprisonment and it is long past time Mark Swidan needs to come home.”

That same day, I delivered remarks at our Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the issue of life. Watch below↓

“The modern Democrat Party is wildly out-of-step with the American people on the question of abortion.”

“According to a Harvard/Harris poll from last year, 10 percent of Americans – only 10 percent support abortion on demand up until the moment of birth. That’s the position – if you want to be a Democrat in the Senate – that’s the position you have to embrace because that’s where the money is, that’s where the activists are, that’s where the angry voices are that fuel a Democrat campaign.”

Wednesday, I sat down with the Bitcoin Policy Institute to talk about how cryptocurrency is digital gold.

Thursday, I joined Squawk Box to discuss the TICKET Act, legislation that I introduced with Chair of the Senate Commerce Committee Maria Cantwell of Washington. Read the releasehere.

Sports fans and concertgoers alike have experienced the frustration of expecting to pay the listed price for a ticket only to be hit with a slew of hidden fees at checkout. These unadvertised fees are a nuisance and deter consumers from following through with a purchase. The TICKET Act would bring transparency to the whole ticketing industry, which is dominated by a few large players that can capitalize on these hidden fees. I’m proud to introduce with Senator Cantwell this bipartisan, pro-consumer legislation to bring transparency to millions of American fans looking to attend their favorite events.

“When you go buy the tickets, at the back end, you get a ton of fees added on. The data show that the average fees added onto a ticket range anywhere from 21 percent all the way up to 58 percent. So what the TICKET Act does is it requires those fees to be disclosed upfront.”

Thursday, I chatted with my friend Sen. Tommy Tuberville and his guest, Paris Hilton, who was on Capitol Hill for the day.

That same day, I joined Dan Dakich on Outkick’s Don’t @ Me to discuss the TICKET Act as well. Listen below.

“I don’t know that Ticketmaster and other brokers are going to press back all that hard, in significant part because people are so ticked off that I think they recognize Congress is going to act.”

Rest assured, I will always lead the fight to protect consumers and promote transparency. God bless you, and God bless Texas.
