The News with Sen. Cruz - July 30, 2013
Greetings,
I wanted to start off by saying thank you. Tomorrow marks one year since our victory in the runoff election -- a victory that, without the grassroots, wouldn't have been possible. Every day I go to work with a spring in my step knowing I have the opportunity to fight for 26 million Texans in the U.S. Senate, and I am grateful for that amazing privilege.
The biggest battle brewing in Washington currently is the effort to defund Obamacare which I am helping to lead. With the upcoming end of the fiscal year -- just 62 days away -- we have a real opportunity to fully defund the health care law if Americans stand together and demand it. Please keep reading below for more on how you can help, then share this latest newsletter with your Facebook friends and Twitter followers.
All the best,
Ted Cruz
DEFUND OBAMACARE
On October 1st, millions of Americans will be required to enroll in Obamacare and could lose access to their doctors and be forced to pay higher premiums and higher taxes. But there is still time to stop it -- 62 days. If Republicans in Congress stand together on principle, they can prevent the Obamacare train wreck be refusing to fund it. Sen. Cruz pledged not to vote for any continuing resolution that funds even a single penny for Obamacare, and he went on radio and TV to make the case for fully defunding Obamacare. Listen to and watch how Obamacare can be defeated below.

PRESIDENT OBAMA IS OUT OF IDEAS ON THE ECONOMY
On Wednesday, President Obama began a series of speeches on the state of the economy and made yet another "pivot to jobs." The President rehashed essentially the same economic speech he has given for years: proposing more government programs and more taxes.
Sen. Cruz observed President Obama is, "out of ideas to fix the economy, and unwilling to do what it takes to remedy the harm his policies are inflicting." Since the President took office, the average rate of annual economic growth has been a paltry 0.9 percent, compared to the historically normal rate of 3.3 percent.
If President Obama truly cared about sparking economic growth and bringing opportunity to the American people, he would join the growing chorus of elected leaders calling for full defund of Obamacare – the single strongest step government can take to unshackle jobs, investment, and growth again in America.
POLITICIZATION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
Last Thursday, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that his Department of Justice will seek to require that Texas get permission before making voting law changes in just the latest example of his politicization of the Department of Justice. Holder's refusal to accept the judgment of the U.S. Supreme Court regarding preclearance continues the DOJ's longstanding pattern of refusing to follow the law.
Sen. Cruz noted, "Holder continues to attack voter ID laws, even though the Supreme Court has concluded that voter ID laws are supported by multiple interests that are 'unquestionably relevant to the State's interest in protecting the integrity and reliability of the electoral process.'"
FREEDOM MINUTE
Yesterday, Sen. Cruz released the latest in his series of "Freedom Minute" segments in which he urges President Obama and his party to spark real economic growth by fully defunding Obamacare. Listen to the Freedom Minute here and share it with your friends if you agree that Obamacare must be stopped in order to unshackle jobs, investment, and growth again in America.
