Sen. Cruz and Texas Leaders Address Severe Floods
HOUSTON - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today attended two press conferences with state and local officials, including Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, and Houston Mayor Annise Parker, where they addressed concerns regarding flooding throughout Texas.
At the Houston Office Of Emergency Management, Sen. Cruz said:
"Today Texans are hurting, Texans are hurting throughout the community of Houston, they are hurting up in Wimberley and across the State. We have seen lives taken from us, men, women, and children taken by the flood waters. We've seen people's homes taken away.
"And I want to commend, first of all, the first responders who bravely have risked their own lives to step in and prevent further damage and save lives. And one of the things that is inspiring in this time of challenge is how Texans come together. We're seeing cooperation with state government, local government, and the federal government all standing together at a time of great challenge. And we're also seeing Texans, individual citizens, churches, and charities, and private organizations stepping forward, individual citizens helping their sister and brother, and that is a testament to the character of Texans."

At the Harris County Emergency Operations Center, Sen. Cruz said:
"The Governor has stated his intention to declare this a disaster, which is the first step towards federal aid, and federal relief. I am confident that the federal congressional delegation from Texas will stand as one, that I will be working closely with Senator John Cornyn and all of the members of Congress from Texas, both Democrats and Republicans. There will be I believe bipartisan unanimity that we need to ensure the federal government fulfills its legal and statutory obligations to take care of those in need to whom disaster has come. And I will say beyond that, that all of us right now, we are lifting up in prayer our brothers and sisters who are hurting, we are lifting up in prayer the families and friends of those who have lost loved ones, who have lost their homes and the damage, we've seen tragedy strike close to home and we're lifting them up in prayer."
