Greetings,
Last week, the 6th Circuit Court made an important decision to temporarily halt implementation of the Obama Administration’s “Waters of the United States” rule. This is an important victory for the American people, especially for Texas farmers, ranchers, and landowners. I will continue to fight to rein in the alphabet soup of regulating agencies, promote free-market principles, and demand accountability and justice from the federal government. I am confident that we can return the power back to where it belongs – with We the People.
I stand firm in pushing back against unnecessary and excessive growth of government, and I will continue to protect the livelihoods of Texans.
Please keep reading for an update on the latest in the Senate.
Keep Texas strong,
Ted Cruz
Cruz: This Is an Important Step Toward Curbing the Federal Government’s Intrusion on States
Last Friday, Sen. Cruz released the following statement upon the 6th Circuit’s stay on the “Waters of the United States” rule, which allows litigation over the legality of the rule to proceed before implementation:
“The 6th Circuit’s order to halt implementation of the EPA’s new ‘Waters of the United States’ rule is a win for all Americans, but especially for farmers, ranchers, and landowners in the state of Texas. Today’s order is also an important step toward curbing the federal government’s relentless intrusion on the states—power grabs that have become standard practice for President Obama’s EPA. I applaud the states for fighting to preserve their constitutional authority against an ever-expanding federal regulatory state.”

Cruz: We Should Embrace Our Country’s Energy Revolution
Sen. Cruz last week released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed legislation lifting restrictions on crude oil exports:
“Eliminating the de facto ban on crude oil exports is long past due. This ban is a relic of 1970s price controls, and like most of the 70’s fads, this one is far past its prime. It’s time to put it to bed for good…We should be embracing our country’s energy revolution, and one of the best ways to do this is to export our energy resources around the world. Not only would this provide many jobs, especially in the state of Texas, but it would also sustain lower gas prices. A rising tide lifts all boats, and the benefits resulting from free trade extend to all.”

Cruz and Gohmert Lead Letter Demanding Immediate Removal of Margaret Sanger Bust from Display
Last week, Sen. Cruz and Rep. Gohmert, along with 24 House Republicans, sent a letter to the Director of the National Portrait Gallery Kim Sajet, calling for the immediate removal of Margaret Sanger’s bust from the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery. The bust is on display in the Gallery’s “Struggle for Justice” exhibit. Sanger, a founder of Planned Parenthood, believed in using contraceptives to control the population of minorities, or people she deemed as “undesirables.” Specifically, Sanger advocated for the extermination of African-Americans.
“There is no ambiguity in what Margaret Sanger’s bust represents: hatred, racism, and the destruction of unborn life,” Sen. Cruz said. “Not only should we continue efforts to redirect funds from Planned Parenthood, an organization founded by Sanger that is currently under criminal investigation, we must also work to ensure that her inhumane life’s work is in no way promoted.”

Cruz: Americans Deserve to Know Whether DOJ Harms Law Enforcement Efforts to Protect the Public
This week, Sen. Cruz sent a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch requesting additional information about the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) interactions with state and local law enforcement agencies. In the letter, Sen. Cruz expresses concern that current DOJ policies may be hindering the ability of law enforcement agencies to protect the public, particularly when law enforcement officials are subject to federally imposed legal, policy, or financial constraints.”
At a time when the President’s anti-police rhetoric is emboldening criminals and fueling a nationwide surge in violent crime, the American public deserves to know if the Department is using the machinery of the United States government to suppress state and local law enforcement effectiveness."
