December 23, 2015

Greetings,

Christmas is upon us again, a time not only to cherish the company of loved ones, but also to celebrate and heed the Lord – to remember that Holy Night in Bethlehem when Christ was born.

During this season of giving, Texas has once again come alive with an unparalleled spirit of love and fellowship. From the McAllen Police Department’s and Walgreens’ toy drive serving roughly 3,000 kids, to Fair Park’s annual Christmas in the Park event in Dallas helping families in need; from Houston’s Star of Hope Mission facilitating at least 48 homes for homeless families, to the Harlien family in Georgetown who hung 70,000 lights this year to raise money for the Make-A-Wish foundation. Indeed, in South Texas, my office helped a veteran receive retroactive disability pay that was owed to him so that his four children would not have to go without Christmas presents.

This remarkable generosity and goodwill demonstrated across the Lone Star State reflects the true meaning of Christmas and spreads the Lord’s promise of enduring love, hope, and redemption.

I pray your Christmas season is filled with joy and peace. May God bless you, and may He continue to bless the great state of Texas and the United States of America.

Sen. Cruz: Prayers for the American Troops Killed in the Recent Afghanistan Suicide Bombing

Sen. Cruz on Tuesday released the following statement on Monday’s terrorist attack in Afghanistan that killed six U.S. service members, including Michael Anthony Cinco, an airman from the Rio Grande Valley:

“Today, Heidi and I are lifting up in prayer the Cinco family and all those affected by this horrific act of terrorism – an act of pure and unadulterated evil. The victims of this attack are patriots who have given their utmost for liberty so that we may remain safe and free. As details continue to unfold surrounding this suicide bombing, a signature tactic of radical Islamic terrorism, let’s pause to remember the selflessness and bravery of America’s fallen servicemen and women.”

Cruz, Meadows to Secretary Kerry: Close the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s Office in Washington, D.C.

Last week, Sen. Cruz and Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry, requesting that the State Department revoke the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s (PLO) waiver to maintain an office in Washington, D.C. The letter, signed by 32 members of Congress, cites Palestinian Media Watch (PMW) reports that the PLO funds terrorism by paying “salaries” to Palestinians who are put in Israeli jails as a way of rewarding and incentivizing terror attacks.

“Our close ally Israel is enduring another wave of Palestinian terrorism in the form of car-ramming, rock-throwing, and brutal knife attacks,” Sen. Cruz said. “These horrific acts of terrorism are due to the continued incitement and glorification of violence by Palestinian leadership…It is long past time for the United States to hold the PLO and its leaders accountable for engaging in such rampant incitement, for celebrating the murder of Jews, and for providing payment to Palestinian terrorists jailed in Israel and their families.”
