ICYMI: Sen. Cruz: With Tax Reform We Can Unleash the Economy

Discusses his priorities for fundamental tax reform with Texas radio hosts Trey Ware and Chad Hasty

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today joined KTSA’s Trey Ware and KFYO’s Chad Hasty to discuss his priorities for fundamental tax reform.

When asked about his priorities for fundamental tax reform on The Trey Ware Show, Sen. Cruz highlighted the unique opportunity ahead to create millions of high paying jobs.

“We’ve got a unique opportunity Trey,” Sen. Cruz said. “We’ve been given Republican control of the Presidency, of every federal agency, and both houses of Congress and we’ve got to deliver right now. [....] When it comes to taxes let’s cut taxes, simplify the tax code so that we can unleash the economy and create millions of high paying jobs.”

Sen. Cruz continued, “The biggest tool to pay down our debt and deficit is economic growth, is getting the economy back to historic levels. Since, WWII our economy has grown on average 3.3 percent a year. From 2008 to today it has only grown 1.2 percent a year. We are limping along at this Obama one and two percent growth. If we don’t get out of that we can’t pay our debt down, the revenues simply aren’t enough. It’s why on tax reform what I am urging is be big, be bold, have major tax cuts that unleashes real economic growth.”

When asked about the specifics of the tax reform proposal, including whether there will be significant changes to 401(k) accounts on The Chad Hasty Show, Sen. Cruz discussed the importance of maintaining savings accounts for families.

“We will see next week what the House proposal is, the details are coming out next week,” Sen. Cruz said. “I hope there is nothing about 401(k)s in there. I think 401(k)s are terrific. They are a wonderful vehicle that millions and millions of Americans use to save, save for retirement. I think we should be encouraging that. I don’t think we should be messing that up at all.”

Sen. Cruz continued, “My view is, federal tax policy ought to be encouraging savings because savings is good for the safety and security of the future and your family.”
