Sen. Cruz: ‘Don’t Turn the Internet into a Public Utility Run by Unelected Bureaucrats’
Votes to prevent reinstating oppressive Obama-era Internet regulations
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), today released the following statement in response to the Senate’s vote of disapproval of the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) repeal of net neutrality regulations:
“Last year we saw Chairman Ajit Pai and the FCC take the bold step of rejecting oppressive Obama-era regulations that stifled innovation and investment and returned the Internet to an oasis of freedom,” Sen. Cruz said. “At a time when Congress has otherwise started to make real progress for the American people, it is deeply troubling that Democrats are successfully pushing to reimpose burdensome regulations that empowered Washington bureaucrats to increasingly meddle in the Internet. Democrats want to turn the Internet into a regulated public utility, which will inevitably limit the freedom and creativity that has been the heart of the Internet since its beginning. I continue to stand with Chairman Pai and the FCC and will support efforts that enable innovation and create new opportunities that could provide tremendous benefits and choice for consumers.”
