Sen. Cruz: ‘As a Pillar in America’s Defense, It Is Only Fitting That the Army Futures Command Call Texas Home’
Participates in ribbon cutting ceremony for Army Futures Command in Austin
AUSTIN, Texas - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Army Futures Command, along with Secretary of the Army Mark Esper, Chief of Staff of the Army General Mark Milley, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), and Gov. Greg Abbott.

"As a pillar in America's defense, it is only fitting that the Army Futures Command call Texas home," Sen. Cruz said. "I am grateful for the efforts of my colleague Sen. Cornyn, members of the Texas congressional delegation, Gov. Abbott, and Mayor Adler in securing this distinct honor and responsibility for the Lone Star State. Austin's booming and innovative technology sector and equipped workforce is ready and able to partner with the Army to propel the force into the future. As the Futures Command is established, I look forward to continue working with the Army to ensure it is modernized and ready to deter aggression, promote peace, and project American strength."
Sen. Cruz continues to be a leading advocate for the Army's expansion into Texas, urging both Under Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy and Secretary Esper to name Texas as the host for the new Army Futures Command. In July, The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce thanked Sen. Cruz and members of the Texas Congressional delegation for their efforts on behalf of Texas.
As part of the largest Army reorganization in 45 years, the AFC will:
- Help the organization adopt new technology and explore 21st century solutions more efficiently;
- Bring 500 jobs to Austin between civilian and active-duty roles, as well as many more economic opportunities for Texas businesses who will support and supply the Command;
- Implement cross-functional teams (CFT) that correspond with the Army's top six modernization priorities: Long-Range Precision Fires, Next-Generation Combat Vehicle, Future Vertical Lift, the Network, Air-and-Missile Defense, and Soldier Lethality;
- Modernize the Army for the future and integrate emerging technologies to meet future threats.
