WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Rep. Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) on Thursday penned a letter inviting Heather Wilson, Secretary of the Air Force, to visit Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas.
“The Abilene community for generations has maintained a strong tradition of support for service members and their families, and we are confident that it will continue to foster these important relationships in the years ahead,” the members wrote. “In fact, the Abilene community and the Air Force have such a strong relationship that the Air Force renamed their annual community award ‘the Abilene Trophy.’ Given the community’s commitment to the Air Force, we would like to invite you to visit Dyess and see first-hand this impressive installation and its exceptional relationship with the local community.”

The Honorable Heather A. Wilson
Secretary of the Air Force
Department of the Air Force
1670 Air Force Pentagon
Washington, DC 20330-1670
Dear Secretary Wilson:
Dyess Air Force Base (Dyess) in Abilene plays a critical role in keeping our country safe and is a strategic asset in our national security arsenal. Located in North-Central Texas, Dyess has been home to the Unites States’ bomber fleet since the 1940’s, and has served as the only training base for B-1s since the aircraft became operational in the 1980’s. We are proud to represent the fine men and women who serve at Dyess, and greatly appreciate the outstanding job they do.
The Abilene community for generations has maintained a strong tradition of support for service members and their families, and we are confident that it will continue to foster these important relationships in the years ahead. In fact, the Abilene community and the Air Force have such a strong relationship that the Air Force renamed their annual community award “the Abilene Trophy.”
Given the community’s commitment to the Air Force, we would like to invite you to visit Dyess and see first-hand this impressive installation and its exceptional relationship with the local community.
Thank you for this consideration. We look forward to working with you, and to hosting you as our guest when you come to Abilene.
Sincerely,
/s/
