Sen. Cruz Travels to San Antonio

Accepts award at AFPM’s 117th annual meeting, visits with San Antonio Police Officers Association, attends groundbreaking ceremony for new San Antonio Federal Courthouse

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today delivered remarks at the American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) 117th annual meeting, where he accepted the AFPM Leadership Award. Later in the day, Sen. Cruz visited with the San Antonio Police Officers association, and participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the new San Antonio Federal Courthouse.

"I'd like to thank the hardworking men and women with the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers for the important role they play in Texas' roaring economy," Sen. Cruz said at the meeting. "Y'all's businesses are yet another example of Texas' amazing economic success story. As Texans, we know the power of free enterprise and the economic growth that we can create when we get the government off the backs of the job creators and the working men and women of our state."

Later, Sen. Cruz visited with members of the San Antonio Police Officers Association and held a roundtable discussion about important issues impacting San Antonio's law enforcement officers.

"I am proud to support the brave men and women that serve and protect San Antonio day after day with selfless courage and sacrifice," Sen. Cruz said. "Last year I introduced a bill to replace the current Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) with a fair formula that would ensure Texas' public servants receive Social Security benefits based on their service to our communities. I remain committed to fighting for our courageous law enforcement and first responding officers to ensure they are recognized and supported by Congress."

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Sen. Cruz commended the bipartisan effort to build the new federal courthouse to serve San Antonioans and advance the rule of law.

"I'd like to thank everyone for taking the time to join us today for this wonderful occasion," Sen. Cruz said. "We are here at the corner of Santa Rosa and Nueva, where the San Antonio Police Department headquarters once stood. Serving as a symbolic reminder of San Antonio's devout commitment to justice and the rule of law. It is only fitting that this space continues to serve the people of San Antonio, and continue to advance the rule of law."
