Sen. Cruz Calls for Hong Kong's Extradition Bill to Be Completely Withdrawn

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Following the decision by Hong Kong's Chief Executive Carrie Lam to suspend consideration of the controversial extradition bill, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today called for the bill to be completely withdrawn from consideration:

"The decision to suspend the extradition bill's reading is a positive step but inadequate to address the continued, worrying erosion of Hong Kong's autonomy by the Chinese Communist Party. The bill should be completely withdrawn from future consideration and officials should take steps to restore and ensure Hong Kong's autonomy. That autonomy is the basis for all current U.S. policy toward Hong Kong, and the U.S. should and will reevaluate our policy if it is not guaranteed."
