Sen. Cruz Announces Series of Subcommittee Hearings on Modernizing Outdated Air Traffic Control System
‘There is widespread agreement the Air Traffic Control system we have today is not working for the American people’
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), chairman of the Subcommittee on Aviation and Space, today announced a series of hearings on modernizing the Air Traffic Control System.
"There is widespread agreement the Air Traffic Control system we have today is not working for the American people," Sen. Cruz said. "Air travel is costlier than it needs to be, routes are less efficient, and the technology we need to keep people safe is outdated, if not obsolete. On top of that, the pilots, air traffic controllers, and technicians who make our air travel possible face constant uncertainty because their job security and pay are subject the whims of Congress and the appropriations process.
"This series provides an opportunity to restart the conversation around much-needed ATC reform, hear from stakeholders on all sides of the issue, and begin developing solutions that make air travel more efficient, affordable, and reliable for all Americans."
The first hearing in the series is entitled, "Improving Air Traffic Control for the American People: Examining the Current System," and it will be scheduled for September 24th. Click here for more information.
