Sen. Cruz: As Our Friendship Deepens, There Is a Bright Future Ahead for India and the United States

Travels to New Delhi, meets with Defense Minister Singh, U.S. Ambassador Juster, and business leaders

NEW DELHI, India - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, on Thursday continued his weeklong Indo-Pacific tour with a visit to New Delhi. There, he met with Defense Minister Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, U.S. Ambassador Kenneth Juster, and leaders of both the American Chamber of Commerce in India and U.S.-India Business Council. Still photos of his visit are below.

In front of Humayun's Tomb, Sen. Cruz praised the growing relationship between the United States and India and touted the over 500,000 Indian-Americans who call Texas home:

"India and America are natural allies. We are working together more and more. India is the largest democracy on the face of the earth. We're blessed to have over a half million Indian-Americans living in the great state of Texas."

Sen. Cruz also emphasized the important military and economic relationship between the United States and India:

"We share common interests and values, including standing up for human rights, free markets, and fair commerce. We also share common rivals. While China has sought to exert influence, India has resisted subjecting its economy to China, and looked beyond the region to bolster its economy. Our partnership is critically important in countering China's aggression.

"Looking to the century ahead, I think the blossoming expanding friendship between India and America is one of the great reasons to be optimistic about the future ahead."

In September, Sen. Cruz penned an op-ed welcoming Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Texas at the ‘Howdy Modi!' event, which was broadcast to 300 million people worldwide. There, he emphasized the ties between the United States and India in his address to the Prime Minister, President Donald Trump, and millions of people watching in Texas and around the world.
