February 24, 2017

Greetings,

This past week I had the opportunity to meet with job creators, community leaders and law enforcement officials in the Rio Grande Valley. During my visit, I received a briefing from the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) and Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) and participated in a USBP muster and night patrol operation and a TxDPS marine patrol of the Rio Grande.

I also had the pleasure of visiting the XTO Energy and Pioneer Natural Resources facilities in the Permian Basin region, where I got a firsthand look at the energy development activities and operations. I also had the opportunity to spend time with several community and business leaders to hear their concerns and discuss their ideas on what can be done in Washington to better enable them to create more good paying jobs in their communities.

I am excited about the incredible opportunity we have to dramatically change the course of our country and our state for the better. Recently, the new administration has shown the willingness to provide the tools needed to secure our southern border and enforce the immigration laws we already have in place. It has also worked with this congress and responsible agencies to begin the rollback of harmful regulations, which will continue to help us unleash the potential of our energy resources and ignite economic growth.

I will do everything I can to ensure that we keep the promises we have made and will continue to work every day to secure a better, more promising future for Texans.

Please read below for an update from this last week.

Sen. Cruz: The Rio Grande Valley is Crucial to Texas’ Economic Strength

Newsletter Pictures

Last weekend, Sen. Cruz participated in several events in the Rio Grande Valley, where he visited with agriculture leaders, business owners, and border mayors, and received briefings from U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) Rio Grande Valley Sector and the Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS). He also participated in a USBP night patrol operation and a TxDPS marine patrol of the Rio Grande.

“The communities of the Rio Grande Valley are a crucial component to Texas’ economic strength and I’m glad to have had the chance to visit with law enforcement, with job creators, and with community leaders to see and hear firsthand the challenges they are facing, and what Washington needs to be doing to provide them the tools they need to thrive,” Sen. Cruz said. “We have an incredible opportunity before us to dramatically change the course of our country for the better. The new administration has shown the willingness to finally provide the tools needed to secure the border and enforce the law, and the motivation to rollback regulations and implement fundamental tax reform to unleash job creation and economic growth. I am optimistic that this Congress could be the most productive Congress we have seen in decades, and I for one will continue doing everything I can to ensure that we keep the promises we have made and secure a better, more promising future for Texans in the Rio Grande Valley and all over this great state.”

Sen. Cruz Visits Permian Basin Energy Producers

On Monday, Sen. Cruz visited XTO Energy and Pioneer Natural Resources facilities to get a firsthand look at energy development activities in the Permian Basin region. He also had lunch with several community and business leaders to hear their concerns and learn their ideas on what can be done Washington to better enable them to bring more opportunity to the communities in which they serve and operate.

“The people and businesses in the Permian Basin are a crucial to the economic strength of our state. While the energy industry in Texas has been impacted by the recent downturn in oil prices, we are beginning to see a robust recovery. That is a testament to the strong work ethic of Texans and the efforts our state has made to keep regulations to a minimum and empower those with new technology and innovative ideas to enter the marketplace,” Sen. Cruz said. “While Texas continues to serve as a model for the success of restrained regulations, I am committed to applying those same principles in Washington’s approach. Thankfully we have a new administration that has shown it understands the value of removing regulatory barriers and has already taken steps to unleash the potential of our energy industry. I look forward to working with them and with my fellow Texans to see our energy resources utilized to their full potential, for the benefit of Texans all over our state.”

Cruz, Nelson Champion American Leadership and Exploration in Space

Last Friday, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed S. 442, The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Transition Authorization Act of 2017, which was introduced by U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, along with Sens. Bill Nelson, Marco Rubio, Gary Peters, John Thune, Tom Udall, Patty Murray, and John Cornyn. The legislation provides stability for NASA to sustain and build upon existing national space investments designed to advance space exploration and science with an overall authorization level of $19.508 billion for fiscal year 2017.

“America has a long history of leading the way in space exploration, which has also fostered extraordinary economic growth and job creation of the State of Texas and the entire nation,” said Sen. Cruz, the chairman of the Subcommittee on Space, Science, and Competitiveness. “This bipartisan legislative achievement provides NASA and the future of the U.S. space program with the stability and certainty it needs moving forward with a new administration. I look forward to working with colleagues in both chambers and on both sides of the aisle to ensure that our nation’s new era of pioneers can continue to innovate and explore with clarity and purpose.”

Sen. Cruz at CPAC 201: This Year We Have A Historic Opportunity to Honor Our Promises to The American People

Newsletter Pictures

Yesterday, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) joined radio host Mark Levin on stage at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) for a conversation about the Constitution.

“We have the opportunity for this to be a historic Congress, the most productive Congress in decades,” Sen. Cruz said. “This year, in 2017, we should repeal Obamacare, confirm a strong conservative to the Supreme Court, and pass fundamental tax reform, ideally a flat tax. And let me add one more thing to that list. We ought to pass the legislation that I've introduced with Lindsey Graham to defund the United Nations until they reverse their anti-Israel resolution. And if we do that, 2017 will be an historic milestone year. What I'm encouraging President Trump and the Cabinet and congressional leaders to do, is let's keep our promises. Let's do what we said we would do, and that's what each and every one of you can hold all of us accountable for.”
