Cruz News: Texans Deserve Better Than Obamacare

header

November 4, 2016

Greetings,

For nearly seven years, Obamacare has failed millions of hardworking Texans and American families across the country. This disastrous law has increased health care costs, robbed Americans of good-paying jobs, and drastically limited insurance and provider choices as competition within the Obamacare exchanges has dwindled. For far too long, Washington bureaucrats have intruded between you and your doctor.

Sadly, Texans are facing the largest reduction in the number of Obamacare insurance plans in the country. Over the past year, nine insurance companies have left Obamacare, leaving only 10 insurance carriers in the state. And for 2017, Texans’ on average premiums are going to skyrocket by more than 36 percent.

This is unacceptable. Texans deserve better. I’m proud to have released a video this week underscoring President Obama’s broken health care promises, and I will continue to lead the fight to fully repeal Obamacare and replace it with bold, innovative reforms that put patients and their providers in the driver seat – not federal bureaucrats.

Keep Texas Strong,

TC Sig
Ted Cruz

This week, in addition to continuing the fight against Obamacare, Sen. Cruz also worked with Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick to highlight Texas’ efforts in protecting the lives of unborn children and reveal the horrific practices of Planned Parenthood. See below for more details of Sen. Cruz’s work on behalf of Texans this week.

Sen. Cruz Fact-Checks Obamacare

On Wednesday, Sen. Cruz released a video fact-checking Obamacare as the law’s fourth open enrollment period begins and families across the nation learn that their previous health plans have been canceled and discover eye-popping premium increases. Sen. Cruz called out the Obama administration and Obamacare for burdening American families with the loss of health insurance, higher costs, and fewer options.

Sen. Cruz and Lt. Gov. Patrick Op-Ed in the Houston Chronicle: 'Texas Can't Alone Win Struggle for Life; Congress Must Cut Off Planned Parenthood's Funding'

Sen. Cruz and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick recently penned an op-ed for the Houston Chronicle highlighting Texas’ continued leadership in the fight for life and calling on Congress to end taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. Sen. Cruz and Lt. Gov. Patrick make the case that Congress should protect the lives of unborn children and the well-being of their mothers.

“Planned Parenthood’s callous disregard for human life stands as a stark reminder that one of our highest ideals - that all people are endowed by God with the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness - remains unfulfilled,” Sen. Cruz and Lt. Gov. Patrick wrote. “Planned Parenthood believes that unborn babies who are unwanted are undeserving of life. Fortunately, most Texans disagree. The people of Texas have embraced the truth that is written on every human heart - that children are a God-given blessing who not only bring joy and fulfillment but, perhaps most important, who teach us to love unconditionally.”

Sen. Cruz and Lt. Gov. Patrick continued, “While Texas continues to lead on pro-life issues, it cannot alone win the struggle for life. The federal government must also take action. Congress should, once and for all, end all taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood, and it should enact the Conscience Protection Act, which would prohibit the federal government, as well as state and local governments that receive federal dollars for health-related activities, from penalizing doctors for refusing to perform an abortion in violation of their conscience.”

Sen. Cruz Commemorates Diwali

On Sunday, Sen. Cruz released the following statement in recognition of Diwali:

“Heidi and I join the Indian people and Indian-Americans in celebrating Diwali and marking the Hindu new year. This holiday is of seminal significance for hundreds of millions of Hindus around the world, including many of my fellow Texans. The central theme of Diwali, the triumph of good over evil and the victory of light over darkness, reinforces the shared hope and common outlook the United States and India enjoy as friends and allies.

“Also embedded in the celebration of Diwali, however, is a clear recognition of evil. The United States and India share challenges from common threats, many emanating from the radical Islamic terrorism that targets both our democracies. These shared threats, however, are yielding a strengthened strategic partnership with India. As we mark Diwali, may the United States-India alliance be a shining light of truth and peace.”
