Sen. Cruz: ‘By Working Through August, We Will Continue to Fight for More Policy Achievements and to Deliver for the American People Who Elected Us’

Applauds Majority Leader McConnell’s decision to extend scheduled working days for the Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today issued the following statement in response to Senate Majority Leader McConnell’s announcement to extend scheduled working days for the U.S. Senate, eliminating August recess:

“I am pleased that Majority Leader McConnell acted upon our request to work through August recess,” Sen. Cruz said. “We must not waste one minute of one day while we work to fulfill the promises we made to the American people. Republicans have a historic opportunity to work together right now. In the past year and a half, we’ve rolled back job-killing regulations, repealed the Obamacare individual mandate, confirmed principled constitutionalist judges, and enacted historic tax cuts to put hard-earned money back into the pockets of families and small business owners in Texas and all over America. By working through August, we will continue to fight for more policy achievements and to deliver for the American people who elected us.”

Prior to today’s announcement, Sen. Cruz joined Sens. David Perdue (R-Ga.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), Dean Heller (R-Nev.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), John Kennedy (R-La.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), Mike Rounds (R-S.D.), Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) in a letter to Majority Leader McConnell petitioning for August recess to be cancelled in order to fulfill their legislative agenda and ensure the government is properly funded before the end of the fiscal year, September 30th.
