Sen. Cruz: ‘Completing the Draft Coastal Texas Study is an Important Step Forward in Protecting the Shores of Our State’
Supports Army Corps proposal to construct the Coastal Spine
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) issued the following statement of support upon the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Texas General Land Office’s release of their proposed hurricane protection plan for the Texas Gulf Coast, which includes a system of coastal levees and floodwalls that is referred to as the “Costal Spine.” In February, Sen. Cruz voted in support of an emergency supplemental appropriations bill which funded the completion of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Coastal Texas Protection and Restoration Study (Coastal Texas Study). He also introduced legislation with Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) which would expedite the completion of the Coastal Texas Study that was passed into law this month as part of the America’s Water Infrastructure Act.
“Even though a year has passed, many Texans in our Gulf Coast communities continue to deal with the aftermath of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey,” Sen. Cruz said. “Completing the draft Coastal Texas Study is an important step forward in protecting the shores of our state and critical infrastructure from future hurricanes and weather events. I am grateful for the work the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Texas General Land Office, as well as local stakeholders, have put into this plan, and I will continue working hard to ensure this project reaches its full completion.”
