Sen. Cruz Celebrates SB 24 Bill Signing; Applauds Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick and Texas Legislature for Defense of Religious Liberty
‘Government has no right to regulate the speech of pastors or compel them to testify about the content of their sermons’
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) issued the following statement applauding Texas Governor Greg Abbott for signing Senate Bill 24 into law yesterday:
"I thank Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick, and the Texas Legislature for their leadership in defending religious liberty and free speech in our state. Government has no right to regulate the speech of pastors or compel them to testify about the content of their sermons. I am glad that our state leaders have codified into state law these protections that will preserve the right of faith leaders to speak freely about their beliefs without fear of being targeted for retribution by government officials who do not share their values or political views."
