Sen. Cruz Congratulates Medal of Honor Recipient Specialist James C. McCloughan
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today released the following statement commending today's Medal of Honor recipient, Specialist James C. McCloughan, U.S. Army:
“Today, Specialist James C. McCloughan of Michigan received the Medal of Honor, the military’s highest ranking medal, for his distinguished actions during 48 hours of close-combat fighting against enemy forces near Don Que, Vietnam, from May 13 to 15, 1969. At just 23 years old, Specialist McCloughan risked his life on multiple occasions to rescue wounded comrades. Despite withering enemy fire, Specialist McCloughan’s dedication to his mission, at great risk to himself, ensured that 10 of his fellow soldiers were pulled from the battlefield and provided medical assistance that saved their lives. His bravery and commitment to fellow soldiers, under extreme and deadly conditions, embodies the spirit of America’s fighting men and women - past, present, and future. On behalf of the great state of Texas, I offer my profound appreciation and gratitude to Specialist McCloughan, U.S. Army.”
