Sen. Cruz Discusses His Legislation to Make the Historic Individual Tax Cuts Permanent
Sits down with Boris Epshteyn of Sinclair Broadcast Group
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) sat down with Boris Epshteyn, Chief Political Analyst of the Sinclair Broadcast Group, for a one-on-one interview to discuss his legislation to make individual tax cuts permanent.
Excerpts of the interview may be found here and below. Watch Sen. Cruz’s full interview here.
Sen. Cruz: “Tax cuts, simplifying the tax code, repealing job killing regulations -- that works. So, what do we need to do? We need to do more of it. We need to make the individual tax cuts permanent. Just a couple of weeks ago the House of Representatives took up legislation -- very similar to the legislation I introduced -- to make the individual tax cuts permanent. They voted on it and just about every Democrat voted ‘no,’ because the Democrats are the party of higher taxes. They want to raise your taxes. They want to raise my taxes. They want to raise everybody’s taxes. And that’s a mistake. We’re seeing the benefits with a booming economy.”
Boris Epshteyn: “What about the argument that making those tax cuts permanent will explode the national debt?”
Sen. Cruz: “Well like may arguments Democrats use, it is a fact and evidence free argument. If you go back and look at [it, there] is a consistent cause and effect. When you cut taxes, when you cut regulations the economy grows. And, typically tax revenues go up. Economic growth is the only force big enough to turn around the deficits and turn around the debt.”
