Sen. Cruz: Gupta Is An Extreme Partisan Ideologue
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today issued the following statement after voting against confirmation of Vanita Gupta to be Associate Attorney General:
"Vanita Gupta is an extreme partisan ideologue with a long record of hostility toward religious liberty, law enforcement, and school choice. Throughout her confirmation process she also consistently refused to answer important questions about case law related to abortion and the Second Amendment.
"Despite Ms. Gupta's pledge to stop the harsh rhetoric that she had used in the past, she has continued to attack prominent Republicans, even during her confirmation process.
"While Ms. Gupta's record is troubling on a host of important issues, her recent support of defunding the police is completely disqualifying for the number three lawyer at the Department of Justice."
