Sen. Cruz Introduces Reassurance for Official Contacts (ROC) Act to Block Diplomatic Isolation of Taiwan

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today introduced the Reassurance for Official Contacts (ROC) Act, which would prohibit the Biden administration from reinstating 2015 Obama administration policy guidelines that prohibited the display of the Taiwanese flag by their service members and diplomats. Last year, Sen. Cruz successfully pushed the Trump administration to reverse the 2015 guidelines, including by introducing the Taiwan SOS Act, which mandated such a change.

Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Ben Sasse (R-Neb.), Mike Braun (R-Ind.), and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) are original cosponsors of the ROC Act.

Upon introduction of this bill, Sen. Cruz said:

"The Chinese Communist Party continually uses censorship and propaganda to isolate and control the narrative surrounding Taiwan. The United States should never do the bidding of a communist regime, and the Biden administration should not reverse the critical advances that the Trump administration made in bolstering the position of our Taiwanese allies. Maintaining these mandates is crucial-especially as China continues to increase their hostility towards the country."
