Sen. Cruz Issues Statement Honoring the Life of Fallen U.S. Border Patrol Agent Christopher Luna
HOUSTON, Texas – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) issued the following statement after U.S. Border Patrol Agent Christopher Luna was laid to rest in his hometown of Edinburg, Texas. Agent Luna was on board a National Guard helicopter when it went down in La Grulla, Texas, killing him and two members of the National Guard, and leaving another in serious condition.
Sen. Cruz said, “Heidi and I are praying for the family and friends of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Christopher Luna who was tragically killed in the line of duty. Our sincere condolences go out to his wife Esmeralda, and their two young children in the wake of this heartbreaking loss.
“For more than 17 years, Agent Luna bravely chose to risk his life as a United States Border Patrol agent and most recently served as an air crew member supporting the National Guard mission along the southern border. He put his life on the line, day in and day out, to keep our communities across the Lone Star State and the country safe.
“As a descendant from a long line of Border Patrol agents, his commitment to sacrifice and service were deeply ingrained into the fabric of his character. Scripture says, ‘there is no greater love than when a man lays down his life for others,’ and Agent Luna truly lived his life by that sentiment. He loved his family, he loved Texas, and he loved the United States of America, and in the end, he gave his life to protect all of them. He is a genuine hero.”
