Sen. Cruz Issues Statement in Opposition to ATF Nominee David Chipman
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, today issued the following statement after voting against President Biden's nominee for Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), David Chipman:
"Freedoms enshrined in our Constitution should not be subject to partisan whims of a Democratic administration. David Chipman is a partisan gun control zealot who is advocating for restricting Americans' Second Amendment rights in calling for a ban on the most popular rifle in America - to include those already in our homes.
"Chipman's nomination as director of the ATF is an affront to Americans who value freedom, safety, and the Second Amendment's right to keep and bear arms.
"This vote is deadlocked in Judiciary Committee and President Biden needs to put forth a nominee that can receive the bipartisan support necessary to be voted out of the committee."
