Sen. Cruz Praises Supreme Court Decision Regarding Vetting Procedures for Entry Into the U.S.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today praised the Supreme Court’s decision to stay both injunctions against President Trump’s September order on vetting procedures and travel restrictions for entry into the United States. The Court ruled that the government can fully implement the President’s decision to impose various travel restrictions on eight nations—Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen—while the appeals of lower court rulings are heard later this week.

“By a vote of 7-2, the Supreme Court rightfully stepped in to block these lawless injunctions. Federal law is clear: the President has wide constitutional and statutory authority over immigration policy and the steps needed to protect national security. And rogue attorneys general and activists judges, pursuing their own policy objectives, have no legitimacy to set aside the President's decisions pursuant to federal law. The underlying order restricts entry and enhances vetting from eight countries--Chad, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen--where terrorism poses a serious, continued, and demonstrated threat. Protecting the security of the American people is the federal government's highest responsibility, and the Supreme Court was correct to vacate--by overwhelming majority--these baseless lower court decisions undermining the rule of law."
