Sen. Cruz Recognizes Juan Guaidó as Interim President of Venezuela
‘Congress should and will work with the Trump administration to facilitate the long-overdue transition to legitimate rule in Venezuela’
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, today issued a statement recognizing Juan Guaidó as the interim president of Venezuela:
“I applaud the Trump administration for its quick and decisive recognition of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó as the interim president of Venezuela. The Venezuelan parliament is the only branch of the government that has been elected and empowered by the country’s people, and it has declared that the office of the presidency is vacant. The Venezuelan people have been fighting for years to be free from the brutal and thuggish rule of Nicolas Maduro and his cronies, who have impoverished the country and shredded its social fabric. Congress should and will work with the Trump administration to facilitate the long-overdue transition to legitimate rule in Venezuela.”
