Sen. Cruz: Shana Tova
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) released the following statement on the eve of Rosh Hashanah:
"Heidi and I wish a Shana Tova - a happy, healthy, and sweet new year - to all of those celebrating Rosh Hashanah.
"The Talmud teaches that there are three main themes to Rosh Hashanah - acceptance of God's kingship over all mankind; remembrance of our past deeds and actions; and sounding of the shofar, symbolizing purity and renewal. As the Jewish people celebrate the arrival of a new year, let us pray that the year 5777 will be one of peace and prosperity in Israel, America, and around the world.
"Particularly as this year comes to an end, we also join our close ally Israel in commemorating the extraordinary life and legacy of one of Israel's founding fathers, former President Shimon Peres, who recently passed away at the age of 93. May his memory be a blessing."
