Sen. Cruz Statement on West Disaster Declaration

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) today issued the following statement in response to West, Texas, being declared a major disaster area:

Despite the unspeakable devastation the city of West has endured in recent months, the entire nation has seen the resolve, camaraderie, and endurance that embody the Texas spirit. Providing this town a major disaster declaration is appropriate, and will be instrumental to helping the West community rebuild, heal, and move forward. I commend the President for his reconsideration and awarding of that designation, and applaud Gov. Perry, Rep. Flores and the many members of the Texas Congressional delegation who fought to ensure West received the appropriate level of aid. All Texans' prayers are with the many families and first responders who continue to struggle with the loss of their livelihoods and loved ones.
