Sens. Cruz, Cornyn Praise the Nominations of Ryan Patrick and Joe Brown for U.S. Attorney

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and John Cornyn (R-Texas) today released the following statements after President Trump announced his intention to nominate Ryan Patrick as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas and Joe Brown as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas:

“Ryan Patrick and Joe Brown will be excellent United States Attorneys,” Sen. Cruz said. “They have both already had distinguished careers in public service—Ryan as an assistant district attorney and state district court judge in Houston, and Joe as the elected district attorney of Grayson County—and I know they will continue to serve the people of Texas honorably in their new roles. I commend the President for these excellent nominations and I hope that my colleagues in the Senate will move quickly to confirm them.”

“Both Joe Brown and Ryan Patrick have demonstrated clear reverence and respect for the law throughout their careers as public servants, and I was proud to join Sen. Cruz in recommending them to the White House,” Sen. Cornyn said. “I look forward to moving their nominations forward and getting them confirmed as soon as possible."

If confirmed, Joseph D. Brown will serve as the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas. Mr. Brown is currently the District Attorney for Grayson County, Texas, a position he has held for the past 17 years. From 1995 to 1999, Mr. Brown served as an associate attorney for the law firm of Cowles and Thompson, P.C. From 2009 to 2014, Mr. Brown served on the state board of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. Mr. Brown received his B.A. from the University of Texas in 1995, and his J.D. from Southern Methodist University School of Law.

If confirmed, Ryan Patrick will serve as the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Texas. Mr. Patrick is currently the managing partner of The Law Office of Ryan Patrick, PLLC and is Senior Counsel with HooverSlovacek, LLC, where he focuses on criminal defense work. From 2012 to 2016, Mr. Patrick was a judge on the 177th District Court in Houston. From 2006 to 2012, Mr. Patrick served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. He received his B.B.A. from Baylor University in 2001 and his J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 2006.

The Senators recommended Mr. Patrick and Mr. Brown to President Trump following an extensive review and interview process of the candidate pool by the bipartisan Federal Judicial Evaluation Committee (FJEC). Sen. Cruz and Sen. Cornyn established the FJEC, a bipartisan panel of leading attorneys in Texas, to help identify the most qualified candidates to fill judicial and U.S attorney vacancies. The panel reviewed applications, interviewed candidates, and made recommendations to the Senators, who interviewed individuals before making their recommendations to the President.
