Sens. Cruz, Cornyn, Rep. Conaway Bill Renaming Odessa VA Clinic Passes Congress

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Rep. Mike Conaway (R-Texas) released these statements following the Senate's passage of H.R. 2334 to rename the Odessa VA Clinic to the "Wilson and Young Medal of Honor VA Clinic." The bill will now head to the president's desk for signature.

"Alfred Wilson and Marvin Young have served our country with dignity and honor," Sen. Cruz said. "Their contributions to the Lone Star State and our nation are remarkable, and as heroes of Odessa, renaming the VA clinic in this community is a fitting tribute to their service and will ensure their legacies will live on."

"Mac Wilson and Rex Young's selfless service and sacrifice for others embody the values we as Texans hold dear, and by honoring them at Odessa's VA clinic, we can ensure their legacy lives on to inspire future generations," added Sen. Cornyn.

"Mac and Rex both made the conscious decision to put their country and the lives of their fellow service members above their own - demonstrating unbelievable selflessness and heroism," said Rep. Conaway. "Their actions serve as a somber reminder to us all of the sacrifices that many have made to preserve our nation and safeguard our freedoms. I am extremely proud to see this bill pass through both chambers of Congress, and I look forward to the President signing it into law."

This bill honors two heroes from Odessa, Texas, United States Marine Corps Private First Class Alfred "Mac" Wilson and United States Army Staff Sergeant Marvin Rex Young, who both sacrificed their lives to save their fellow service members in the Vietnam War. Both were posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for their heroic actions.
