Nominations To Attend A U.S. Service Academy
Nominations Process
Each year Sen. Cruz has the honor of nominating qualified candidates to compete for appointment to United States service academies. Sen. Cruz works hard to ensure that we maintain our commitment to all service members, and this begins with helping to identify our best suited future military leaders. Each applicant must complete a thorough application and selection process, ensuring that the most qualified candidates are nominated to lead our service men and women in combat.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates who wish to apply for a nomination must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 17 years of age, but not older than 23 by July 1 of the year of admission.
- Be a United States Citizen
- Be a Legal Texas Resident
- By law, graduates of the service academies are appointed to active duty as commissioned officers and serve in the appropriate branch of the armed forces for a minimum of five years.
Applying for a Nomination
Applications for nominations to the Class of 2029 will open and the online portal will go live on Friday, April 5, 2024. In order to be considered for a nomination, all candidates must submit the following materials by Friday, October 4, 2024 deadline. Please note this is NOT a postmark deadline, all application materials must arrive to the Austin office by October 4, 2024:
*Please note that the scores of any exams taken after September 1, 2024 cannot be guaranteed to arrive by the application deadline.

- Four Letters of Recommendation
- Official High School Transcript and College Transcripts (if applicable)

**Due to the volume of applications Sen. Cruz receives each year, his office is unable to conduct in-person applicant interviews. The materials submitted are considered the complete application for review.
All complete applications will be reviewed after the October deadline with notices of final decisions mailed to all applicants by the end of the calendar year.

*Please note that a congressional nomination is not required for admission to the U.S. Coast Guard academy. If you are interested in attending the USCGA, contact the academy directly.*
